The last time voters called a convention was 1937 and most of the delegates were independent. However in the 1960s the Legislature called a convention off cycle so their members could easily run for delegate. This why #1 reason we hear repeatedly against a NYS convention is THE VOTERS MAY ELECT BAD DELEGATES; because of the 1960s Legislature called convention and everything 1960s Con Con proposed was rejected by the voters. When the convention is called by a YES vote of the voters in Nov 2017; the delegates will be elected in Nov 2018 at same time as the legislators and the governor are up for reelection which makes it hard for Legislators to run for delegate. Other reasons against are usually scare tactics, or the convention cost which is much less than NYS wastes in a single day.

Be prepared the other side will say the sky is falling if a NYS Constitutional Convention is approved don’t believe them.
Note: There has been some confusion about the difference between NY State and Federal Constitutional Convention.  A Federal Constitution Convention (sometimes called an Article V Con-Con) is called if 2/3 of the States pass resolutions requesting one. The members of a Federal Con-Con are appointed by the State legislators the people have no say in choosing them. Amendments must be approved by 3/4 of the States and because the US Constitution protects our rights; all our rights are at risk !!!
What we want is a NY State Constitutional Convention Whether it will be held will be decided by NYS voters this Nov 2017; since it automatically appears on the ballot every 20 years. If approved by the voters. In Nov 2018, 3 delegates are elected by NYS residents from each of the 63 NY State Senate districts and 15 delegates at large. Any proposed Amendments must be approved by the voters. No rights are at risk because the NYS Constitution does not protect much and Federal Constitution overrides the NYS one.
Our Secession plan calls for establishing a more representative form of government than the strange form of democracy NYS currently has which allows downstate to rule upstate which destroys good paying jobs upstate , while upstate can occasionally block things downstate wishes to enact. We would partition NYS into Autonomous Regions the New Amsterdam Region (upstate) and the New York Region (downstate) alongside a token state government to comply with the US Constitution. The token NYS government that remains would have about the same power as the Queen of England! Because we are forming regions not a new state or moving counties between states; Congress can be legally bypassed. Since the NYS Legislature has failed to act, this plan also has the option to bypass the NYS Legislature; because every twenty years the people of NYS get to vote on whether to hold a NY State Constitutional Convention. We need to vote YES on the Constitutional Convention, in Nov 2017 (may be on the back of ballot, or a separate sheet). Our autonomous regions method is more likely to succeed!

In most of upstate New York State, people are getting very hurt by lack of good jobs, but a little over 900 miles away in Wisconsin there are more jobs than people. Downstate is getting hurt by mass transit falling apart and high taxes. NYS high taxes and many regulations drive jobs away and money is NOT being spent on maintaining our infrastructure. NYS is infamous for lack of fiscal responsibility, ethics violations, and nepotism. Everything is decided by three men in a backroom! While at the same time our state is NOT doing the basic things government is created for such as maintaining the highways, maintaining the subways, clean water systems, working sewer systems that do not pollute, and many other things. All these problems are caused by our leaders playing politics rather than governing!
 
    The only way to fix things is via a YES vote on the NYS Constitutional Convention this November 7, 2017 (on the back of your ballot at most polling places) The Convention would have the ability to Create Term Limits, Budget Reform, Real Ethics Reform and the power to separate NYS into two or three Autonomous Regions. Reform is needed or upstate will continue to lose jobs & people, NYC subways will completely fail, and water systems & sewer systems’ will malfunction more often. It’s a fantasy to believe that the NYS leaders have the best interests of the people in mind, or will reform NYS themselves.
    Most of those who will be spending millions to oppose the convention like Gov. Cuomo, Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan are doing so for selfish reasons, or to cling to power! This year we can bypass the NYS Legislature; because this Nov 2017 the people of NYS get to vote on whether to hold a NY State Constitutional Convention. If we vote YES on the NYS Convention this will be the first step in our only option to reform NYS Government!
